The early decorative cast iron of Melbourne was made in Great Britain.Imported balustrades were to be seen on some of the early Bluestone Houses.These balustrades continued in diminishing quantities throughout the Cast Iron period of 1850.Locally made cast iron castings were being manufactured in Melbourne in 1856 by at least five cast cast iron foundries.The best known company was Cochrane and Scott.This family company made many hundreds of products,many of which are made today. Some of their Lacework designs have proved to be popular today
