Heritage Terraces of Today were the Flats of years gone by
The Heritage Terraces we see today built during the boom years of the 1880 period were the equivalent of todays flats. They were primarily built as rental accomodation, however on some occasions the owner would live in one. Strangely enough it was often in the centre of a group of terraces. This may explain why the lace and balustrade in the centre terrace may be different to the adjoining terraces, often with more extravagant heritage features.
Nothing reflected Melbournes vision of itself more than its exuberant domestic and public architecture.
